Farming
63 plants you can grow at your base
Your first crop
- Get a seedling. Place a Seedbed at your base. It turns a crop you picked in the wild into seedlings, usually 5 at a time. For example:
1
1→
5 - Plant it. Place the seedling in the ground. Plain dirt works for most plants, but farm soil is much faster.
- Wait and harvest. The plant grows by itself, in 10 min to 40 min depending on the plant. Crops are picked once; bushes and fruit trees fill up again and again.
The Watering Can shows which soil suits a plant and how far it has grown. Plants never need watering. A world setting changes how fast plants grow, from 0.25 to 2 times; all times here are at normal speed.
The Farmer
Emily grew up on her family's farm and later built a tavern of her own in Brittlebush, in the Kindlewastes, where she cooked for travelers. When a drought burned her fields to ash she gave away the last of her food, then followed Queen Jezmina's caravan, devoted to the queen. Her diary and her early letters tell the story.
She sleeps in an Ancient Vault until you wake her in the quest Growing Stronger Together, which the Hunter gives you. Once she lives at your base she makes farm soil, animal bait, food and most farming items (everything she makes).
Soil
The ground a plant grows in is the biggest thing you control. There is no separate fertilizer: better soil is the fertilizer. Most plants grow in a quarter of their time on Fertilised Farm Soil and in half on Farm Soil. Each plant below shows its time on every soil it accepts.
Farm soils
Fertile dirt
Each region's dirt mixed with farm soil.
Plain ground
Dirt and sand dug up in the regions. Many plants grow in it, some more slowly.
Crops, flowers and mushrooms 36
Grown once and harvested once for the items listed.
