How comfort works
Comfort is the game's reward for furnishing your base. It works together with the Rested buff, which raises your maximum stamina and how fast your stamina comes back.
Becoming Rested
The game asks for three things at once:
- Shelter, or sitting or lying down.
- Warmth from a fire, like the Flame Altar, a campfire or a fireplace.
- A safe spot.
While you rest like this, the buff charges up. You can also sit at a campfire out in the world, so you can top it up anywhere, not just at home.
What comfort adds
Comfort doesn't make you Rested by itself. It decides how long the buff lasts once you head out. Every piece on these pages gives a set amount of comfort, from +1 up to +10, and the comfort around you adds up to your comfort level. A higher level means a longer buff. The game does warn that the buff gets harder to extend the further you get, and the Well Rested skill raises the base duration too.
Each piece also has a comfort type, such as bed, table, chair, hearth, lighting or trophy. You can see it on the item's page.
Beds have one more use: lying down at night skips ahead to sunrise, so you don't have to deal with the tougher night enemies.
